Following an exceptionally cold winter in the Japanese Alps, our 200 year old villa is emerging from its seasonal stillness to prepare for a next month reopening. As the snow retreats from the stone lanterns and mossy garden paths to reveal Nagano’s signature spring light, returning guests will find a refined interior experience. Drawing on the insights of our first six months, we have introduced new furnishings and thoughtful modifications that seamlessly harmonize historic character with modern comfort. We look forward to welcoming travelers to rediscover the quiet elegance and storied atmosphere of Okaya.

The private Villa Azalea is now open and accepting reservations through the link in the header, or contact us directly.
We’ve lovingly preserved the serenity and tactile beauty of the original 200-year-old structure while adding every modern comfort — from plush beds to soothing hinoki baths. Children will delight in the open rooms and stairways, while adults can retreat to quiet nooks and calming spaces. Looking ahead, we plan to transform the rear garden shed into an engaging activity and cultural hub by 2026.
